According to IDEA, autism is a developmental disability that affects verbal and nonverbal communicaton. It also affects social interaction and is generally evident before the age of three years old.

 

Characteristics of autism include repitive actions, stereotyped movements, resistance to change in the environment and daily routines, and unusal responses to sensory experiences.
